Decades of Construction Experience

Don has been working in construction off and on since 1981. Over the years, he has completed projects for friends and family and gained experience working with roofing companies, new home builders, and apartment rehabilitation teams. In 2012, Don and Verna began flipping houses together while both were still working full-time elsewhere.

That experience eventually led them to establish Dove Construction. Don brings decades of practical, hands-on building experience to every project, with an emphasis on doing things right and taking pride in the finished product. His extensive background allows him to approach each project with a practical understanding of what it takes to turn a client's vision into a quality finished space.

Today, Dove Construction is a family-owned and operated construction and general contracting company based in Cushing, Oklahoma, serving homeowners and communities throughout the surrounding area.

 

A Creative Eye for Design

Verna brings a different but equally important perspective to Dove Construction. Before co-founding the company, she spent her career as a school teacher. Her creativity was always a major part of her work, from developing engaging lesson plans to organizing classroom spaces and decorating her classrooms.

That lifelong love of creativity and design naturally found its way into construction. Verna has an intuitive eye for color coordination, layout, organization, and how different elements work together in a space. She enjoys helping clients take their ideas and turn them into a home they are excited to live in.

Together, Don's construction experience and Verna's creative perspective allow them to approach projects from both the practical and design sides of the process. Whether a project involves remodeling an existing space, adding new living areas, or creating a custom outdoor structure, they work to make sure the finished result is both functional and thoughtfully designed.

Family has always been at the heart of Dove Construction. Don and Verna share a blended family of four children, including their son, Alan, and three daughters. They are also proud grandparents to four grandchildren. Although some of their grandchildren live in Chicago and Alexandria, Virginia, and distance keeps them from seeing them as often as they would like, family remains one of the most important parts of their lives.

Their commitment to family extends into their commitment to the Cushing community. Dove Construction has been a member of the Cushing Chamber of Commerce since 2016, and Don continues to take an active role in supporting the local business community.

​

Don currently serves as Chairman of the Cushing Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, where he helps support local businesses and initiatives that contribute to the community's future.

 

Verna is also involved in developing the next generation of community leaders through Tomorrow's Leaders, where she teaches high school juniors about leadership skills and the fundamentals of local, county, and state government. For Don and Verna, being involved in Cushing means more than owning and operating a local business. It means giving their time, experience, and knowledge back to the community.

Recognized by the Cimarron Valley Community

Dove Construction is honored to have been recognized by the community through the Best of Cimarron Valley awards. The company has won the Best of Cimarron Valley General Contractor/Construction category in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
